OUR STORY

We aim to spread the spirit of FIRST® throughout our community by applying innovative and practical problem solving, as well as organizational and team-building skills beyond robotics.

What is FIRST?

For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, more commonly known as FIRST, is an international organization working to promote youth involvement in STEM with several programs. There are three main programs: FLL (FIRST Lego League), FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge), and FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition). We are a part of FTC.

FIRST Tech Challenge

In FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), teams design, build and program robots to score points in games and tournaments. In one season, a team participates in many meets to reach a good ranking. Qualifiers determine whether a team makes it to the State Championship, and from there, the best teams move on to the World Championship. Grades 7-12.

Women in STEM

As an all-girls team, we strive to empower females in our society and in the STEM world. As such, some of our team members participate and lead FIRST's STEM Girls. Our team has also started an all-girls FLL team named "The Shorter Circuits" (read more on our Outreach page).

Subteams

Our team is divided into three main sub-teams; Mechanical, Programming, and Outreach/Sustainability. Each sub-team is vital to our team's growth and success, so we make sure to devote time to each. All of our team members contribute to Outreach/Non-technical areas, and are either Mechanicals or Programmers.

6 Members

Mechanical

Brainstorms and prototypes ideas, CADs mechanisms and robot, CNCs and 3D-prints custom pieces, builds robots and continuously improves upon previous mechanism ideas, resulting in multiple iterations.

9 Members

Programmer

Brainstorm and develop vision algorithms, use extensive libraries to program mechanisms and drivetrain, create diagrams to visually explain the algorithm.

Everyone

Outreach and Sustainability

Organizes outreaches and events with STEM professionals, other teams, or the community. Hosts fundraisers and STEM camps. Volunteers for our all-girls team. Helps with team budgeting and obtaining sponsors. Manages social media, advertisement, and team branding.
